About us

Angela Reisetter, writer

I’m a physics professor at the University of Evansville in southwest Indiana. I’m also curious about how the world around me works, whether that involves physics, biology, chemistry, or other sciences. I love to share my love of science with others, from my students to family and friends to those hanging around wherever I am. That makes me a super-nerd, but I am unabashed.

My area is particle astrophysics, and that affects what upper-level courses I teach and some of what grabs my attention in science headlines.  I work on SuperCDMS, a dark matter search, analyzing data and simulations and making pretty pictures on my computer.  In any given semester, I’m teaching some sort of intro course, whether it’s the standard algebra- or calculus-based physics or a gen ed that uses a textbook like Physics and Technology for Future Presidents or Why You Hear What You Hear, which is for the physics of music course.  I’m interested in how physics intersects the lives of non-scientists.  But I also love my upper-level classes, which include electronics, computational physics, astrophysics, particle physics, and cosmology.  With those I get to explore the deeper ideas that will help my students decide what they want to spend the rest of their lives working on, really contemplating the mysteries of reality at the most basic levels.

I love to read good writing and absorb good information from wherever I can get it. I post all my book reviews on Goodreads, but I’ll post the science-related ones here.  I also post cool physics links on our department Facebook page, linked in the sidebar.
